| Hon. Kennedy Agyapong |
Mr Agyapong was reemphasizing his recent allegations that other people, aside the Chief State Attorney, benefited from the judgement debt paid to beleaguered business man, Alfred Woyome. He wants the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to come out with the full list immediately.
Mr Agyapong has recently waged a crusade to bring to the fore, names of all individuals and institutions that benefited from the judgement debt paid to Mr. Woyome. EOCO's interim report revealed that the Chief State Attorney, Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh’s wife, received GHC 400,000 from Mr Woyome.
But Ken Agyapong says it is unfair for EOCO to single out the Chief State Attorney when there are other people who have benefited from the money. While still holding his cards firmly to his chest, Mr. Agyapong pointed to payments made into a supposed ‘Castle Account’ as well as that of the state of the broadcaster GBC.
He said the GBC account was used to launder an alleged GHC5 million paid into it. Mr Agypong stated that Mr Twumasi Appiah had informed him earlier in the week that parliament received complaints from GBC on the account and that parliament is going to sit to investigate the veracity of the allegations in the coming days.
But Mr. Twumasi Appiah who called into the programme to react to Mr Agyapong’s allegations said, the latter has failed his constituents who put him in parliament to discuss such issues of public interest. He said Mr Agyapong has decided to resort to the airwaves because he knows that when he brings the issue to parliament, he would be required to withdraw the allegations if they are not founded on evidence.
“If Mr. Agypong thinks he has information, let’s thrash it out. Your constituents voted for you to be here, to be in parliament. Let’s do the deliberations here, not on radio.”
He accused Mr. Agyapong of failing to attend committee meetings to deliberate on issues of national concern, but Mr Agyapong will have none of that.
The accusation seemed to have unnerved the parliamentarian. In a swift jab, Mr Agyapong accused his colleague of coming to meetings high on the narcotic drug, Indian Hemp.
“I take [an] exception to what he said that I don’t even attend meetings. As a chairman as he is, even [when we were discussing the budget] how many times did he come with a clean face. You go and smoke your wee. .. He is a wee smoker, he goes out there, he doesn’t even do anything, please, please, I am not scared of that id***.”
All attempts to dissuade him from proceeding with the insults proved futile.
When he was reproached by host of the programme, Matilda Asante, Mr Agyapong retorted “you can’t intimidate me because I also have a TV station. Get it straight.”
His insult got out of hands and was eventually excused from the programme when he refused to retract and apologise to Mr. Twumasi Appiah.
